Checking for Varroa Mite

Varroa mite (Varroa destructor) is a tiny parasite that affects European honeybees. Until it was found in New South Wales in 2021, Australia was the only country to be free of this pest. After an initial attempt at eradication and the loss of many thousands of hives, the transition has been to management. Varroa is now established and spreading in New South Wales and has reached Lennox Head. An incursion into Queensland and other States is expected in the near future. The worst outcome from this incursion which other countries and now New South Wales has experienced, will be the death of all untreated honeybee colonies across the landscape.

Please make sure you are checking your hives and register the results at the link below.
